Dr. Noreen Schaefer-Faix, associate professor of communication at Defiance College, recently attended the 2007 conference of the International Association for Intercultural Communication Studies in Harbin, China, where she presented an academic paper.
The theme of this year’s conference was “Harmony, Diversity, and Intercultural Communication” and was hosted by the China Association for Intercultural Communication. The conference brings together international educators and scholars to share ideas and experiences from diverse interdisciplinary perspectives on communication across cultures.
Dr. Schaefer-Faix’s presentation was entitled, “American Students’ Views on Chinese Concept of Harmony (Hexie).” Within the context of understanding a world that is becoming more interdependent and connected, Schaefer-Faix said that her students study the theory of harmony from the Chinese culture perspective, and her report explained the results of that study.
