Stunning photographic images captured around the world by Fredric Roberts will be featured during a presentation by the photographer on Sunday, Nov. 18, on the campus of Defiance College. Sponsored by the McMaster School for Advancing Humanity, the program will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Hubbard Banquet Room of Serrick Campus Center.
Roberts spent 30 years as a successful investment banker, which included serving as chairman of the NASD, which at that time owned and operated the Nasdaq Stock Market. Since retiring from investment banking, he has traveled extensively, documenting his experiences with photographs that have won him national recognition.
An interest in photography became a life-changing move for Roberts. In the world of investment banking, he encountered many wealthy people who seemed spiritually bereft. Leaving that comfortable world for some of the poorest regions of the globe, Roberts found himself surrounded by individuals who had no concept of wealth in terms of worldly goods, and he found a different richness and dignity.
His photographs are in the collections of Stanford University and the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego. In 2003, he was a winner in two categories of the International Photography Awards. His first book, Humanitas Volume One, was a finalist for Foreward Magazine’s 2005 Book of the Year Award in the photography category.
Roberts is a member of the board of advisors of the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops and the Santa Fe Center for Photography. He is the chairman of the board of Cost Plus, Inc., and a director of Limited Too.
A graduate of Yale University and The Hill School, he is an active member of the business and cultural communities in Los Angeles, including the Los Angeles Music Center. He has been a frequent lecturer for the John E. Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA and has written articles of corporate finance for Chief Executive Magazine.
The Defiance College event is free and open to the public. The 3:30 p.m. program will be followed by a wine and cheese reception. Interested persons should reserve a seat by calling 419-783-2552 or by emailing dsmith@defiance.edu by Nov. 13.
