The Big Band Sound of the DCCB

The Big Band Sound of the DCCB concert performance, Thursday, January 17, will feature an “Andrews Sisters” style, close-harmony, female trio in a couple of big band favorites. The trio is composed of Janice Johansen, Kirsten Coffman, and Casie Sprow, all familiar to Defiance audiences as frequently seen members of Fort Defiance Players.

In addition, Scott Rogers has announced that featured instrumental soloists will include Tim Booth on trumpet, Julie Bayliss on tenor sax, and Frank D’Ambrosia on both alto sax and clarinet. They will be spotlighted in several of the familiar standards to be included in the evening’s program.

Rogers says that the “program is featuring ‘Strike Up The Band’ a Sammy Nestico Favorite as well.” Made up of members of the Defiance College Community Band, the group has performed two earlier standing-room-only concerts as well as several community events.

The performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Defiance Community Auditorium. Dick Stroede, Executive Director of Defiance Community Cultural Council sponsoring the event, says, “Our Council is pleased to make it possible for the Defiance area to enjoy this great band—at a very affordable cost. We hope that everyone who enjoys the music of the big band era will come out and have a wonderful evening.”

Admission is $5 and available from Kissners, Defiance Public Library, the information desk in Defiance Hall on the DC campus, and the Defiance Development and Visitor’s Bureau. Those outside Defiance may order tickets by mail by sending a check, $5 for each ticket, to DCCC, Box 294, Defiance OH 43512. Tickets will also be available at the door an hour before the performance.
