Classical pianist Robin Spielberg will perform in Schomburg Auditorium on the campus of Defiance College on Thursday, March 6, at 7 p.m. as part of this year’s Schomburg Series. This is a change from the originally scheduled date of March 11.
Robin Spielberg is one of today's most popular contemporary pianists/composers, thrilling audiences around the country with her beautiful music and inspired tales. Fourteen recordings reflect the artist's creativity, composing genius and technical mastery of her instrument, the grand piano.
In 1996, Spielberg was added to the prestigious roster of Steinway Artists. The following year she made her Carnegie Hall debut in a sold-out concert at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall and has performed there twice since. Her concert career has taken her from Florida to Seattle, from Maine to Montana. In 2004, she made her Asian debut at the Seoul Arts Center in Korea and made two television specials there that have aired throughout Asia. She returned to Korea in October 2006 to perform in Seoul, Busan and on KBS Television. A compilation CD entitled “Remembering You” was released in Asia during her tour there.
With hundreds of thousands of CDs sold throughout the world, Spielberg’s work has been celebrated on more than 30 compilations, several television commercials and videos. She is a recipient of the ASCAP Popular Music Award. This year her composition, “Walk with Me” was the music used for the compulsory waltz in the Great American Ballroom Competition aired on PBS.
Spielberg serves as celebrity spokesperson for the American Music Therapy Association. Her work with music and healing has been documented in The New York Times, Parenting Magazine, on Lifetime Live, ABC News and CBS Saturday Morning. As spokesperson for AMTA, she conducts seminars and workshops with music therapists in schools and hospitals throughout the country and introduces young people to careers in music therapy. Spielberg and her husband/manager Larry Kosson reside in rural Pennsylvania. Together they operate playMountain Music, an independent recording label and SMG Artists, an artist booking agency. They have a nine year-old daughter, Valerie, and two cats.
