The "Prisoners of Hope - The Children of Shu'fat Camp" photography exhibit

The "Prisoners of Hope - The Children of Shu'fat Camp" photography exhibition reception will be held on Tuesday, March 18th from 6:30 to 8pm in the Women's Commission Gallery in the Art Center at Defiance College. The show will be open through March 31.

The photographs were taken during the McMaster School for Advancing Humanity's trip to Israel in June 2007. McMaster Fellow Dr. Michael Spath and Defiance College student Kara Brant teamed up on a project in Shu'fat Refugee Camp located on the outskirts of Jerusalem, Israel. Shu'fat Camp was created in 1965-66 to serve as temporary residence to Palestinian families from 56 villages who lost their homes with the creation of Israel in 1948. Many of the photographs in this exhibition are from children ages 10-15 whose families have been in Shu'fat since its creation. All photographs are of people and places inside of Shu'fat.
