A workshop on diversity will be offered as part of this year’s McMaster Symposium/Global Summit at Defiance College. “Celebrate Diversity” is the theme of a 90-minute workshop led by Dr. Sandra Golden, assistant professor of education at DC.
The workshop will be held on Thursday, April 10, at 3:30 p.m. in Schauffler Hall on the DC campus. In the session, participants will learn about dimensions of diversity and how to create climates of inclusiveness, define diversity, self-investigate, and develop a diversity action puzzle. “Participants will gain the skills and knowledge to continue the process of self-investigation and inclusiveness,” said Dr. Golden.
Dr. Golden came to Defiance in 2007 after teaching for seven years at Notre Dame College in Cleveland. She has 10 years of experience as a literacy educator, coordinator and researcher with the Cleveland Municipal School District and at Kent State University and the Ohio Literacy Resource Center, respectively. She is the founder and president of Diversity Celebrates All!
The workshop is free and open to the public. To reserve a seat, call 419-783-2412 or email sgolden@defiance.edu.
The symposium and summit, held April 9-11, allow students, faculty, and other campus and community leaders to reflect on their efforts addressing critical global issues and serving humanity through scholarship, academically-based community service, and leadership.
