A Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree has been approved for Defiance College with classes beginning this summer.
The MBA replaces the current Master of Business and Organizational Leadership program.
The Ohio Board of Regents recently approved the 36-credit-hour MBA program which will consist of three concentrations: leadership, health care, and criminal justice.
“Defiance College is pleased to offer a more recognized degree to meet the needs of the region,” said Dr. Gerald Wood, president. “In keeping with market trends, the change to the MBA will better meet the needs of those pursuing advanced degrees in business.”
Much of the focus of the MBOL program, which has been in place at DC for several years, will be shifted to the MBA.
Dr. Susan Wajert, coordinator of the program, said the college’s business division had been discussing the change for more than two years. “Defiance College was ahead of the curve with the MBOL program,” she said. “Now, we have designed an MBA that will be both integrated and interdisciplinary in nature. It will provide graduates with a set of skills and abilities with broad applicability to the workplace.”
Wajert noted that current and prospective students as well as alumni favored a change to the more-recognized and sought-after MBA. Defiance graduate student Dustin Jennings assisted with research on the program change as part of his leadership project.
Persons interested in the MBA program can contact the Center for Adult and Graduate Programs at 419-783-2351 or visit the Defiance College website at www.defiance.edu.
