As part of National Family Literacy Day, Defiance College Education Division, APPLE student organization, and the Defiance Public Library will sponsor a two-hour literacy event on Saturday, Nov. 1, targeted for parents of pre-school age children. Parents and children participating in the event will receive an early literacy development resource handbook, literacy activities, and a small tote bag of pencils, stickers, glue sticks, and a Dr. Seuss book.
Training and resources are meant to help prepare both parent and child for entrance into the elementary school system.
The National Family Literacy Day event will be held at the Defiance Public Library and begin at 10 a.m. with literacy development training. At 11 a.m., Dora the Explorer literacy activities will take place with a star picture frame project and face painting.
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.
