Defiance College Community Band’s
Veterans Day Concert to be held Nov. 10

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College is pleased to announce this season’s opening concert by the Defiance College Community Band will be held Tuesday, Nov. 10. Titled “A Tribute to Our Veterans…Defenders of Freedom,” the event will take place in the Defiance Community Auditorium beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Under the baton of musical director Dr. Vincent Polce, the DCCB will perform a variety of musical selections that will include overtures, Sousa marches, and patriotic melodies. Guest and local soloists will also be highlighted.

“During this special Veterans Day concert, our program will pay tribute to all military personnel and their families,” stated Polce. “Of special interest will be a section of the concert devoted to the men and women who served in the Korean War. We are pleased to be working with Mike Williams of the Defiance Veterans Administration Office in this venture.”

Special guest soloist will be Master Sgt. Becky Davidson of the United States Army’s Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps stationed in Washington D.C.  She will perform on piccolo.

Special guest narrator, Randy Buchman

In commemoration of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial, Defiance City  Historian Randy Buchman will narrate the Gettysburg Address accompanied by the DCCB. Leading the band in this selection will be Conductor Laureate Richard Stroede.

The grand finale will be a special appearance by a 70-voice choir conducted by Stroede. Comprised of members of Defiance area churches and Defiance College Choir members, they will join the band in performing “America the Beautiful.” 

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:45 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
