DEFIANCE, Ohio – Dr. Don Buerk, associate professor of history at Defiance College, will be the next speaker for the Town and Gown Lincoln Series with a presentation on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. The lecture will be held in Schomburg Auditorium on the campus of Defiance College and is free and open to the public.
Buerk will speak on Lincoln and the Peace Movement. An accompanying exhibit to be displayed in the Women’s Commission Gallery will focus on a variety of material including Lincoln memorabilia and some anti-war material of the 1860s.
The yearlong series is sponsored by Defiance College and the City of Defiance. Additional financial assistance for the lecture and exhibit series is being provided by the Ohio Humanities Council. The next Lincoln Series event scheduled for Nov. 12 will be a concert by the Dodsworth Saxhorn Band playing music Lincoln requested of the U.S. Army during his presidency.
Defiance College, chartered in 1850, is an independent, liberal arts institution in Northwest Ohio offering more than 40 undergraduate majors as well as graduate programs in education and business.
