DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College sophomore Christina-Marie Drake, Oakwood, is featured in the October issue of Seventeen magazine. She is named among young women who are making a difference in an article entitled, “You Can Change the World” by Jessica Press. Drake’s “Changing the World” contribution was to raise over $15,000 for diabetes, cancer, music education and other causes by organizing concerts.
Along with appearing in the October edition of Seventeen magazine, Drake was also awarded a $1,000 scholarship for making a difference in the world.
Before moving back to Ohio, Drake lived in California. It was there that she organized her first concert for diabetes. She asked friends to play, a connection let her use a venue, and her concert was a success.
Drake has joined efforts with other organizations that use concerts to raise money including Warped Tours and most recently, Rock for Autism. Drake also works with bands locally organizing events and tours as far as Chicago and Canada during school and as far as California during breaks.
On campus, Drake is an integrated language art major, with a minor in communication arts. She is a cheerleader, Bonner Leader, Citizen Leader mentor, DC Ambassador, and a member of Progeny and Alpha Xi Delta.
Defiance College, chartered in 1850, is an independent, liberal arts institution in Northwest Ohio offering more than 40 undergraduate majors as well as graduate programs in education and business.
