Defiance College Completes
Schomburg Auditorium Phase I Renovation

Defiance College has completed the first phase of the highly anticipated $300,000 renovation of Schomburg Auditorium. The second largest venue on campus, Schomburg Auditorium has been an essential facility for meetings and events for both students and the community since its addition to the college in 1961. The venue’s new look and feel is part of the College’s $26 million Comprehensive Campaign.

The main features of this phase of renovation were the installation of new auditorium seating, carpet and fixtures, as well as a new paint palette. The new seats are the latest in auditorium seating from Sauder Manufacturing Co. and offer a comfortable place to enjoy the many performances and presentations hosted in Schomburg.

The auditorium seating was installed by Sauder Manufacturing Co. and painting was completed by Renovators Incorporated.

Phases two and three of the renovation will be completed in the future as funds and venue availability permit. Phase Two will include installation of a handicap lift in Schomburg/ Dana Hall to allow for handicap access between the buildings. Handicap seating will be added to Schomburg Auditorium, and handicap access will be added to the North entrances of Schomburg/Dana Hall.

New theatre curtains, stage, and sound and lighting system will be installed during the final phase, as well as the renovation of the Schomburg restrooms.

Additionally, alumni and friends are invited to take their place as part of Defiance College's history and its future by naming a seat in Schomburg Auditorium as part of the "Take a Seat" Chair Naming Campaign.

When a seat is funded with a $300 donation, a nameplate bearing a name or a name in memory or honor of another will be affixed to the back of the chair. Contributions are tax deductible.

For more information about making tax-deductable donations to the Defiance College "Take a Seat" Chair Naming Campaign or Comprehensive Campaign, contact the office of institutional advancement at 419-783-2572 or visit the DC website at www.defiance.edu.
