Shannon Cochran, ethnic studies professor at Bowling Green State University, will be the guest speaker at Defiance College’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 22. Her presentation will discuss the role of women in the civil rights movement. The event is sponsored by the college’s Office of Intercultural Relations.
Cochran holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Otterbein College, Master of Arts degree in Women’s Studies from Ohio State University (OSU), Master of Arts degree in African American and African Studies from OSU, and is a doctoral candidate in Women’s Studies at OSU.
The Defiance event will begin with a dinner at 6 p.m. in the Hubbard Banquet Room of Serrick Campus Center. Cochran’s presentation is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Schomburg Auditorium.
The presentation is free and open to the public. Persons interested in attending the dinner, at a cost of $6 for community members, can make reservations by calling the Office of Intercultural Relations at 419-783-2362 by Jan. 16.
