It will be an evening of music, conversation and desserts as the Defiance College Community Band presents “Come to the Cabaret, My Friends,” on Saturday March 28, at 7:30 p.m. This second annual event will be held in the Weaner Community Center on the Defiance College campus with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
The concert, “Gershwin, Berlin, Some Crooners, and a Screamer, Too!” will feature a variety of music including selections from musical theatre, the big screen, and the Big Band era. Appearing with the band will be guest trumpet soloist John Harner, former lead trumpet with the Stan Kenton band. Guest vocalists are Defiance natives Andrew and William Schultz, who will perform a variety of vocal favorites.
Andrew and William Schultz are the sons of Frederick and Jan Schultz of Defiance and 2001 and 2005 graduates of Defiance High School.
Andrew Schultz is a 2006 Ohio Northern University graduate with a bachelor of music and a bachelor of science in business administration. At ONU, he was a member and assistant director of the University Singers and the Men’s Chorus under the direction of Dr. Dennis Kratzer. He recently completed his second year as Director of Music at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Defiance and continues to work on his education by completing two masters degrees from ONU in the spring, a degree in choral conducting from Bowling Green State University as well as working as a graduate assistant at BGSU. He plans to use his experience of working with singers of all ages and levels by continuing his education in choral conducting.
Will Schultz is currently completing his bachelor degree in theater at Wright State University. Will has participated in ensembles for The ArtsGala, a premiere WSU scholarship event and performed with the WSU Men’s Chorale and WSU Collegiate Chorale. In 2008, Will wrote, produced, and performed a one-man show, Letters Not Written. After college, Will hopes that music, theater, and working with children and young adults will continue to fill his life.
“We are pleased to present an evening of entertainment on the DC campus for the Defiance College and Defiance community,” stated music director and conductor Vincent Polce. “We have many musical treats for the audience with delicious desserts and beverages served by Defiance College/Sodexo food service.”
