Randy Buchman, Defiance city historian and Defiance College emeritus professor, will be the presenter at the next Lincoln Series event scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m. The lecture will be held in Schomburg Auditorium on the campus of Defiance College and is free and open to the public.
Defiance College is an independent, liberal arts institution in Northwest Ohio offering more than 40 undergraduate majors as well as graduate programs in education and business. Defiance College has received national recognition for its educational experience of engagement. U. S. News & World Report ranks Defiance in the top tier of comprehensive colleges in the Midwest. Buchman will address the topic, “The Role of Location in the Rise of Political Power.” An accompanying exhibit to be displayed in the Women’s Commission Gallery will include reprints of articles published in the Defiance Democrat during the Lincoln years, representing local reaction to Lincoln’s position on issues during his presidency.
The yearlong series is sponsored by Defiance College and the City of Defiance. Additional financial assistance for the lecture and exhibit series is being provided by the Ohio Humanities Council. The next Lincoln Series event is scheduled for March 12 and will feature a presentation on the humor of Lincoln by Dr. Jan Younger.
