DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College 2008-09 Schomburg Series brings another diverse and exciting band to the campus and community with a concert by the David Munnelly Band. One of the hottest bands on the traditional Celtic music scene, the band will be performing on Tuesday, March 17, at 7 p.m. in Schomburg Auditorium on the campus of Defiance College. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with these outstanding Irish musicians.
The David Munnelly Band’s exciting sextet combines button accordion, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, piano, bodhrán and flute for a high-spirited instrumental sound colored with a bit of jazz and ragtime, topped with the singing of All-Ireland champion Shauna Mullin and the extraordinary percussive dancing of American Nic Gareiss.
“The Irish band to see” (Irish Voice) has won special acclaim for incorporating the sound of the 1920s and 1930s and such bands from that era as the Flanagan Brothers with its traditional roots. They were awarded the "Concert of the Year" for both 2006 and 2007 by LiveIreland.com.
Individual performance tickets will be available at the door.
Support for this year’s Schomburg Series is provided in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, The Hubbard Company, Time Warner Cable, and radio stations WDFM, WZOM, WNDH and WONW.
