T-RUTH Academy for
Young Adolescent Girls planned

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College’s division of teacher education will host a five-week youth academy for young adolescent girls between the ages of 12-16 at the Northtowne Mall, Defiance, beginning June 19.  T-RUTH Academy for Young Adolescent Girls is a program that serves young girls in the Defiance community by providing them with opportunities to improve and enhance their reading and writing skills.

Through this program, participants will work within a structured reading/writing program to develop interpersonal and academic skills that will enable and empower them to become productive and caring young girls in their community.  The overarching theme of T-RUTH is to teach reading and writing to young girls while engaging them to reach their highest academic potential, guiding them toward self awareness and understanding, leading them on a path of discovering their truth and empowering them to build community with humility to serve others.

In this five-week program, participants will meet every other Friday from 6-8 p.m., June 19 through August 14 in the Community Room at the Northtowne Mall.  Each participant will receive a book, diary and mystery gifts presented at each session. The culminating activity of this program will be the presentation of each participant’s work in the form of a bound memoir. 

Furthermore, if the participants meet program guidelines, they could be eligible for a $20 gift card, free movie passes, or selected to participate in the Top Model Back-to-School Show at the Northtowne Mall in August. This program is free but has limited seating. Light refreshments will be served.
