DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College and the City of Defiance will host Dr. Larry Nelson on Thursday, Oct. 14, for the next Town and Gown, War of 1812 series presentation. The 7:30 p.m. lecture will be held in Schomburg Auditorium on the campus of Defiance College. Dr. Nelson will speak about "The Role of Fort Meigs.”
The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Nelson was the site director at Fort Meigs State Memorial park for nearly 30years before his retirement in 2004. An authority on the early Maumee Valley, he has authored several books dealing with the region’s history including Alexander McKee and the Ohio Frontier, The Sixty Years War for the Great Lakes, 1754-1814, and A History of Jonathan Alder: His Captivity and Life with the Indians. Currently, Nelson is the editor of Northwest Ohio History and an adjunct assistant professor of history at Bowling Green State University’s Firelands College and at Heidelberg University.
The next War of 1812 Series event is scheduled for Nov. 4 and will feature Richard Finch, Fort Meigs site manager, presenting “Arise, You Sons of Kentucky” in Schomburg Auditorium.
