DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College and the City of Defiance will host Tom Founier on Thursday, May 13, for the next Town and Gown, War of 1812 series presentation. The 7:30 p.m. lecture will be held in Schomburg Auditorium on the campus of Defiance College and is free and open to the public.
Founier, commanding officer and chairman for the 41st Regiment of Foot Military Living History Group, will speak about “Major Muir and 41st Foot.”
A War of 1812 enthusiast, Fournier developed an interest in the history of the war beyond the commonly accessible literature. He has research extensively the original source documents examining the service of British soldiers, particularly the 41st regiment in Canada from 1799 to 1815. He is currently working on a compilation of details on the events surrounding the Battle of the Thames (Moraviantown) of October 1813.
The next War of 1812 Series event is scheduled for Sept. 16 and will feature Richard Rozevink, Defiance Veterans’ Historical Committee, presenting “Winchester’s Camp Three; The Horrible Winter of 1812-13” at the Arts and Media Center.
