DC PC Solutions Accepting Computer Donations

DEFIANCE, Ohio – After a successful first year, Defiance College Personal Computer Solutions is continuing to provide computer repair assistance and is also accepting unwanted computers and equipment. During its first semester, DC PC Solutions provided computer repair assistance to more than 20 members of the community.

Donated computers will be wiped clean of data and refurbished. Computers will then be donated to area community members, schools, programs or groups so that others in need can have access to the technology.

"As the student founder of the program, it has been more than amazing to see how it has grown from just an idea to an actual working entity that has been able to help so many people in such a short time. I hope it continues to grow after I graduate," said senior Gene Snyder, project manager and digital forensic science major.

Repair services offered by DC PC Solutions include malicious software and virus removal; hardware upgrade services and repairs; data recovery; secure data wiping and backup services; and operating system optimization. Services are able to be performed on computers with the Windows operating system.

DC PC does not charge labor fees for the services its members provide, but clients must pay for any parts they might need themselves. However, the organization does encourage freewill donations. Funds donated to DC PC support program upgrades and help pay for parts needed to refurbish unwanted computers or buy new ones that can be given back to the community.

These services will be provided by students who are digital forensic science majors at DC.  They work and study under the guidance of digital forensic science faculty members Gregg Gunsch and Tim Wedge.

Community members who want to make an appointment to take advantage of the services offered by DC PC Solutions can leave a message at 419-783-2596 or email dcpc@defiance.edu.  Consultations and computer drop-offs are by appointment only.

DC PC Solutions operates as part of Project 701, a separate legal entity, incorporated under the laws of the State of Ohio and run by a Board of Directors comprised of DC students, faculty, administrators, and alumni.  It is administered as part of Defiance College’s McMaster School for Advancing Humanity. The organization incorporates the strengths of various academic disciplines in order to develop innovative strategies to address community needs. It also provides entrepreneurial training and experience that will enable students to even more effectively use the skills and knowledge they learn in the classroom.

Defiance College, chartered in 1850, is an independent, liberal arts institution in Northwest Ohio offering more than 40 undergraduate programs of study as well as graduate programs in education and business. Defiance College has received national recognition for its educational experience of service and engagement. The college website is www.defiance.edu.
