DEFIANCE, Ohio – In observance of Veterans Day, Defiance College has two events planned to honor men and women who have served or are serving in the military.
On Friday, Nov. 11, a recognition ceremony will begin at 10:50 a.m. at the flagpole located on North Clinton Street between Defiance and Schauffler halls. The program includes music by the DC Chamber Singers and prayer led by Rev. Jan Bechtel. Speaking will be two veterans, Dr. Tim Rickabaugh, a DC faculty member, and Nate Slough, a Defiance College student.
Campus members are encouraged to wear patriotic colors, and Sodexo will be serving a special lunch menu in the dining hall on that day.
Saturday will be Military Appreciation Day at the Yellow Jacket football game against Bluffton with kick-off at 1:30 p.m. at Justin F. Coressel Stadium. All area veterans and immediate family members will be admitted to the game at no charge. Red, white and blue pins will be distributed to all in attendance. Veterans and their families will be seated in President Mark Gordon’s VIP seating area, and wheelchair seating is available.
The football field will be painted in patriotic colors with paint donated by the local Sherwin Williams store. A VFW color guard will present the colors, and two veterans will represent DC in a ceremonial coin toss.
Both events are sponsored by Defiance College’s veterans committee.
