DC students pursue strength
and conditioning certification

Dr. Tim Rickabaugh is certified as a strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and renewed his certification earlier this year. He has seen significant student interest in obtaining professional certifications in order to become more competitive for jobs or graduate assistantships upon graduation.

Senior Dan Hardin-Wallace completed a personal training internship over the summer and is preparing to take the CSCS exam during his senior year.  Noah Yurchison, a 2012 graduate, is completing a post-graduate internship in a strength and conditioning program. Noah passed his CSCS exam earlier this year and is one of a select few undergraduates in the country who had this certification already earned upon graduation. Dr. Rickabaugh worked closely with both Dan and Noah to prepare them for CSCS testing, and Jodie Holava worked with Noah on the exercise physiology portions of the test. Both Dan and Noah majored in wellness and corporate fitness.

The CSCS test is comprised of three portions: items on the scientific foundations of strength and conditioning, video items on the implementation of strength and conditioning guidelines, and practical applications of strength and conditioning guidelines.
