DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College recently announced the addition of Chad Peter, president and chief executive officer of Mercy Western Region, to its Board of Trustees.

"Chad brings many talents, much expertise, extensive experience in the community, and a true commitment to Defiance College,” said DC president Mark Gordon. “We are delighted that he has agreed to join our Board of Trustees, and I look forward to working closely with Chad in the months and years ahead."

Rita Kissner, chair of the College’s board, added, "Chad is a highly respected member of the community, and we are pleased to have him join the board. As an alumnus, he brings knowledge and experience especially beneficial to programs and students interested in the medical field."

Peter was named president and CEO of the Mercy Western Region in January when Defiance Clinic joined Mercy and became Mercy Defiance Clinic. He has been with Defiance Clinic since 1976 when he joined the multi-specialty medical group as an assistant administrator. He became administrator of the clinic in 1983 and president and CEO in 1996.

Speaking of his appointment, Peter said, “I’m honored to serve as a trustee of my alma mater. Defiance College gave me a solid foundation on which to build a life and a career, and I’m happy to have this chance to give back to the college. It will be a privilege to have a part in providing the Defiance College opportunity for others.”

Peter holds a bachelor degree from Defiance College, a master’s degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, and a fellowship in the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Peter is also an active leader in the Defiance community having served on the Defiance 2100 Steering Committee and supporting its efforts to better position the community for the economic future. He also serves on the steering committee of Live Smart – A Healthy Defiance County, a collaborative effort of local government and school officials, medical professionals, business leaders and community volunteers to improve health and quality of life in the county.

In addition, Peter is the current past president and a member of the Defiance Area Foundation, a past president of the United Way of Defiance County and the Defiance Area YMCA, and a trustee of the Defiance Clinic Charitable and Educational Foundation. He serves on the boards of Mercy Defiance Hospital and the Ohio Women’s Open. He is a member of Rotary International and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Defiance.
