Defiance College’s Choral Union
to perform two concerts with
OSU Lima campus University Chorale choir

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College Choral Union in conjunction with the University Chorale of The Ohio State University at Lima will be presenting two concerts. The first concert will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 903 Center St., Bryan, on Sunday, April 1, at 4:30 p.m. The second performance will be held on Monday, April 2, at 7 p.m. at St. John United Church of Christ, 950 Webster St., Defiance.

Under the title “Music of the Lenten Season,” classical to contemporary choral music will be used to lead the audience through the sacred season from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. Selections include the peacefulness of Melius Christiansen’s “Lamb of God,” Jean Berger’s “The Eyes of All, and the intensity of Zdeněk Lukáš “Dies Irae” and Craig Courtney’s “Thy Will Be Done.”

“The season of Lent contains some of my favorite choral music. Come join us for a musical journey through the Lenten season with two tremendous choirs in two beautiful sanctuaries,” said Andrew Schultz, Choral Union director and director of music programs at Defiance College.

The Defiance College Choral Union consists of DC students, college personnel and community members from all over Northwest Ohio. The spring concert is one of three annual events presented by the ensemble including the W. Oscar Jones Choral Festival and the Annual performance of Handel’s Messiah. The group rehearses on Monday nights and is always happy to welcome new members.

Under the direction of Matthew Young, the University Chorale is in its second year of existence on the Ohio State Lima campus. This auditioned group is the top ensemble at OSU-Lima, and primarily performs a cappella choral music from a wide variety of historical eras both on and off campus. The University Chorale has performed for Archie Griffin as part of The Ohio State Lima’s 50th anniversary celebration, as well as in Lincoln Center as part of the Distinguished Concerts International New York Concert, honoring the music of Eric Whitacre.

Both events are free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken at the end of each performance.

Defiance College, chartered in 1850, is an independent, liberal arts institution in Northwest Ohio offering more than 40 undergraduate programs of study as well as graduate programs in education and business. Defiance College has received national recognition for its educational experience of service and engagement. The college website is www.defiance.edu.
