DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College has entered into an innovative partnership with DCTV to provide students distinctive opportunities for hands-on experience helping to produce programming for the local television station. Under the partnership, DC students will receive a wide range of opportunities for field experience, internships and possible employment with DCTV.
The partnership targets students in the college’s communication arts, graphic design, and sport management fields. Students will have opportunities in video production, filming, editing, programming and creating content. They will also learn lighting and sound set-up. In addition, qualified students will have an opportunity to do play-by-play announcing and commentary for coverage of a range of sporting events as well as providing broadcast coverage for local events and meetings. Students will also be able to create and produce their own programming.
“This is a win-win for everybody involved,” said Defiance College president Mark Gordon. “This partnership creates another opportunity for our students to get hands-on experience that links what they are learning in the classroom with the realities of the world beyond. It will also enable our students to gain experience that can help their resumes stand out in the marketplace.”
“We are pleased that we will be partnering with Defiance College to expand our programming while providing an educational resource to the students and faculty,” said Curt Aldrich, station manager at DCTV. “The ability to create content with the college is an exciting opportunity for DCTV, and we look forward to bringing quality programming to the community.”
Andrew Schultz, director of the Defiance Community Cultural Council, said, “DCCC is eager to expand the station’s programming in both cultural and athletic content and having this close partnership with DC and its students will make that possible.” The station is a subsidiary of DCCC.
Defiance Community Television has been part of the community for the past 25 years providing local programming for Defiance and surrounding communities. The new student opportunities will be available starting with the fall semester.
