DC offers upcoming
Professional Development Courses 

Defiance College will offer several Professional Development courses during February, March and April.

Professional Development courses are currently designed for in-service teachers and are typically taken to fulfill requirements to maintain or renew your teaching license. Courses are taught by DC faculty and will focus on current and relevant research related to teaching children in today's classrooms.

Most of the workshops are offered over two days on Friday from 5 – 9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The upcoming workshops include the following:

 “Building Positive Family/School Relationships” will be offered online Feb. 1 – March 4. The participants will come to understand the change that America’s families are going through by reading related articles and discussing system theory. Participants will work in an online classroom contributing to discussions and completing a self-designed assignment.

On Feb. 8 and 9, participants will be introduced to the teaching and learning philosophy of the Reggio Emilia approach in “Making Learning Visible through the Reggio Emilia Lens.” They will explore how they can imbed the principles into their own classroom.

“Brain-compatible Classroom Strategies” will be presented on March 1 and 2. This class will provide K-3 teaches with a generous amount of brain-based strategies to help students achieve success in the classroom.

“Understanding Autism” will be offered on March 22 and 23. As more and more people are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, this class will help participants come to a deeper understanding by exploring the characteristics, thoughts and behaviors of people with autism.

On April 12 and 13, “Partnering with Parents” will offer an interactive workshop detailing a successful parenting program that provides parents with activities to encourage their thinking about the image they have of their child and their role as a parent.
