FAQs
Is orientation a required event for incoming students?
No, orientation is not required, but some of the information you will receive will
need to be addressed individually over the summer with an admission counselor.
What if I can’t come to an orientation day?
Most of the information will be communicated over the summer. Please contact your
admission counselor for any information you may miss from orientation.
What if I live far away and can’t attend an in-person orientation?
Good news, DC does offer a virtual orientation! Register for the virtual orientation here.
Can my parents/guardians come with me?
We encourage parents to join their future Yellow Jackets at orientation. There will
be a couple of parent/guardian-focused events as well.
What do I wear?!
Casual attire is appropriate.
Will I be able to select my classes during Orientation?
No. Students should register for fall semester classes beforehand. Students should
speak with the registrar's office if they have any questions. They can be emailed
at registrar@defiance.edu. Course schedules can be picked up during orientation as well.
Will I be able to change classes?
Yes, students will be able to meet with the registrar during orientation.
Will I be able to meet with the faculty?
Yes, during the resource fair faculty will be able to talk with students and answer
questions.
Where do I park?
Park in the Serrick or Dana lot off of Sessions Ave. There will be signs and orientation
leaders directing traffic. For our campus map click here.
What if I have a food allergy?
Students with food allergies should contact Ellen Erickson at eerickson@defiance.edu
Can I get another tour during orientation?
Yes, orientation leaders will be able to give dorm and general tours during orientation.

Defiance, Ohio is a scenic town in northwest Ohio located where the Maumee and Auglaize
Rivers meet. There is a rich history in Defiance, including Fort Defiance and the
restored Miami and Erie Canal Lock. The Main Street District in downtown has been
revitalized, and people gather at the many restaurants, boutiques, and events. Throughout
the year many events are held from Ribfest to the Lilac Festival to many historic

There is a wide variety of restaurants in the town of Defiance. Situated an hour away from Fort Wayne and Toledo, one will easily be able to find what one needs if for some reason it can’t be found in Defiance. Defiance does have multiple grocery stores and shopping locations. The Northtowne Mall Plaza is located within walking distance from Defiance College, where there are multiple clothing stores, sporting goods stores, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and many dining options.
