Pair of DC Sophomores Garner All-HCAC Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference recently announced its 2008 award winners for the baseball regular season. Defiance took home a pair of accolades, as second-year players Tim Pitro and Kirk Jesse were each named All-Heartland Conference.

Jackets Drop Season Finale to Mount St. Joseph

CINCINNATI – Defiance dropped its final baseball game of the season on Sunday, falling 9-7 to the College of Mount St. Joseph. The MSJ victory clinched the HCAC regular season title for the Lions.

The Jackets opened the game with a 3-0 lead after Kirk Jesse, Ben Gates and Tim Pitro all reached safely to start the game before coming around to score.

Stewart Homers Twice in MSJ Doubleheader

CINCINNATI – Aaron Stewart highlighted a 13-run outburst by Defiance in the second game of DC’s doubleheader at Mount St. Joseph, but it was not enough as the Jackets fell 15-13. MSJ won the opener by a 7-2 score on Saturday afternoon.

The Mount jumped out to the 3-0 lead in the first inning but Defiance kept MSJ from scoring again until the bottom of the sixth. The Jackets took advantage of the Lions’ scoring drought and cut the margin to 3-2 with single runs in the third and sixth.
