Jackets edged twice by Panthers

HANOVER, Ind.—The Defiance College Baseball team, after taking Friday’s HCAC opener, dropped two at Hanover College on Saturday afternoon.

In game one’s 2-3 loss, senior Tyler Stork went six innings, giving up just four hits and three earned runs. Eric Tipton led the Jacket bats with a 2-for-2 game, an RBI and a run. The Jackets tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth on Tipton’s RBI plating David Jackson and a Zach Metzner single that scored Tipton. The Panthers took back the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly after a lead-off double.

In game two, starter Derek Hanson, a sophomore was bounced after an inning with freshmen Jake Reckner and Nicholas Picciano going three and two innings, respectively. Jackson went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI on a 1st inning double. Tim Yenser also drove in a first-inning run on a single. Tipton and junior Jeremy Hawkins each went 2-for-3 with a run, while Hawkins drove in a run. Phil Kosier went 1-for-3 and scored a run.

The Jackets are now 5-8 overall and 1-2 in the Heartland Conference. DC travels to Heidelberg College on Tuesday before hosting Anderson University on Friday at 3:00 p.m. to open their 2006 home slate.
