Jacket Baseball downed by Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio—The Defiance College Baseball team fell at Heidelberg College on Tuesday afternoon, 7-10, dropping to 5-9 on the season.

Thirdbaseman Eric Schwab led the Jacket offense with two hits and two RBI, while David Jackson registered an RBI on his lone hit of the game. Jeremy Hawkins added two hits of his own, while Zach Metzner notched a double. Chad Casey got the loss on the hill for the Jackets. Starting pitcher, Cory Bergfeld threw two scoreless innings before Dustin Zizelman allowed one earned run in two innings.

DC scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. The Student Princes, however, countered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Four runs in the top of the seventh and a run in the ninth brought the Jackets to within three before falling 7-10.

The Jackets will next host the Anderson University Ravens on Friday at 3:00 p.m. in their 2006 home opener.
