Ravens take series from Jackets

ANDERSON, Ind.—The Defiance College Baseball squad dropped two games at HCAC-opponent Anderson University on Saturday afternoon, 4-10 and 3-4.

In game one, the Ravens used a five-run bottom of the second to take a commanding lead and eventually the game. Phil Kosier led the DC offense with two RBI and a run in a 1-for-3 day at the plate. Starting pitcher Tyler Stork went two innings before freshmen Nicholas Picciano and Dustin Zizelman appeared in two innings of relief each. The Ravens had five extra-base hits, including a triple and a homerun from catcher Ryan Weiss.

In game two, starting pitcher Cory Bergfeld went 4 1/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits, while striking out one. Lenny Koesters helped the Jackets to a 3-0 lead with a 2-for-3 effort with a run. James Yenser, who hit a double and stole a base, and Jeremy Hawkins each drove in a run. Anderson scored four unanswered runs, including three in the bottom of the fifth and one in the final frame to earn the win.

The Jackets are now 6-11 overall and 2-4 in the Heartland Conference. DC will host the University of St. Francis on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
