Yenser shuts out Cougars in 1-0 DC win

DEFIANCE, Ohio—The Defiance College Yellow Jackets rode on the shoulders of pitcher James Yenser on Sunday afternoon, defeating the University of St. Francis 1-0 at Rutter Field.

Yenser went all nine innings, striking out six and allowing just four hits and none for extra bases. On the year, Yenser now has a 0.64 ERA through 14 innings pitched with 13 Ks. The game’s only run came on a bases-loaded walk drawn by DC’s Phil Kosier in the bottom of the third after walks by Zach Metzner and Jeremy Hawkins, and a single from Lenny Koesters.

Koesters went 2-for-3 and was hit by a pitch. The junior is now hitting .452 on the season with a .511 on-base percentage. Eric Tipton smacked a double in his only at bat in the eighth inning.

Kyle Mawer got the loss for the Cougars.

The Jackets, now 7-11 on the season, will next travel to Wittenberg on Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
