Jackets fall at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—The Defiance College Baseball team dropped a non-conference contest at Wittenberg University on Tuesday night, 4-5.

DC jumped out to a 3-0 in the top of the third when Lenny Koesters plated Casey Claeys on a sacrifice fly, Eric Schwab singled in James Yenser from second, and Jeremy Vance brought Schwab home with a single to centerfield. The Jackets starting pitcher Derek Hanson went five innings before Nicholas Picciano and Tyler Stork each pitched 1+ innings. Eric Tipton led Defiance offensively with a 2-for-4 performance, while Casey Claeys went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Koesters led DC in RBI with two.

The Tigers plated two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh in part due to three DC errors in those innings. There were a combined nine errors in the game between the two teams.

Picciano got the loss for DC, who falls to 8-12 on the season and will face Transylvania University in three Heartland Conference home games this weekend starting on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
