Jackets split twin bill, take series from TU
DEFIANCE, OhioThe Defiance College Yellow Jackets won game two of Saturday’s HCAC doubleheader against Transylvania, 3-1, after losing game one 4-5 at Rutter Field.
James Yenser proved, once again, to be a menace to opposing hitters, holding the Pioneers to one earned run on five hits and striking out five in game two. Eric Tipton had a hand in all three Jacket runs, driving in two on a double and a fielder’s choice and scoring on a Mike Hill single in the fourth. Phil Kosier went 2-for-2 with a run in the Jacket win.
Game one saw six strong innings from Russ Lupica, who gave up just one earned run and struck out two. The Pioneers got go-ahead and eventual winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh. Jake Reckner and Tyler Stork appeared in relief for DC with Reckner striking out one.
Jeremy Hawkins was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI on 5th inning single, while Lenny Koesters went 2-for-4 with a run. Yenser was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Eric Tipton was 2-for-4 in game one with a double. Stork got the loss in game one.
