Jackets drop two at #11 Manchester
N. MANCHESTER, Ind.The Defiance College Yellow Jackets dropped a pair of games at #11 Manchester College on Friday afternoon, 6-7 and 0-2.
The Jackets led the nationally-ranked Spartans 6-5 in the final frame of game one before a walk-off two-run home run by George Mallett lifted the hosts to their 10th HCAC win of the year. Jeremy Vance led the DC offense with a 2-for-3 day and two runs. Mike Hill was 1-for-2 with an RBI and the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh. Eric Schwab was 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run while James Yenser, Lenny Koesters and Jordan Wack each added an RBI.
Russ Lupica went 3 1/3 innings in game one, allowing four earned runs on five hits with two Ks and four walks. Tyler Stork appeared 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one earned run on five hits.
In game two, delayed by strong thunderstorms in northern Indiana, Yenser continued his impress senior campaign on the mound, going six innings and holding the Spartans, who average over eight runs-per-game, to two earned runs on four hits. The senior struck out three and walked three. Yenser and Koesters were each 2-for-3 while Schwab was 1-for-3 in the loss.
The Jackets are now 11-16 on the year and 4-7 in the Heartland Conference. DC will host Manchester tomorrow at noon.
