Defiance downs Grace, 8-1
DEFIANCE, OhioThe Defiance College baseball team downed the Lancers of Grace College on Tuesday afternoon at Rutter Field, 8-1, on the strength of a combined three hitter by the Jacket pitching staff.
Dustin Zizelman got the win for DC, going seven innings and allowing just two hits and no runs with three strikeouts. Jake Reckner and Nicholas Picciano each appeared in one inning of relief, striking out one and two batters, respectively. Offensively, the Jackets exploded for six runs in the third inning, three of which came on a triple by Eric Tipton.
James Yenser went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI, while R.J. Chidester and Eric Schwab were each 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run apiece. David Jackson drove in one run in a 2-for-4 day, while Jeremy Hawkins was 1-for-3 with a run.
Adam Metzger got the loss for Grace, striking out five and induced two double plays.
The Jackets are now 12-17 on the season and will travel to Mount St. Joseph on Friday and Saturday for a three-game Heartland Conference series.
