Jackets drop first game of series against Bluffton
BLUFFTON, Ohio The Defiance College Baseball team could not pull out a win against Bluffton University as the team fell to the Beavers Friday afternoon 3-4.
Bluffton jumped on top first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second. The Beavers added one more run in the bottom of the third before Defiance could answer back. In the top of the fifth, the Jackets were able to come within one on an RBI triple by Eric Tipton and an RBI groundout by Dave Jackson. However, the Beavers added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning.
DC would not go away, adding one more run in the top of the eighth on an RBI double by James Yenser. That would be as close as the Jackets would get, as DC went 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth. Jeremy Hawkins was perfect on the day, going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Yenser went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Tipton also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
DC, now 14-23 overall (6-13 HCAC), finishes up the three-game set with Bluffton in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at home at noon.
