--Anderson, Ind.--DC Baseball is at .500 in the conference after splitting a double- header at Anderson on Saturday, 3-5, 20-4.
Shortstop Jeremy Hawkins went a combined 5-for-6 on the day, driving in three runs and scoring four times. Richard Trick had a monster day, going 2-for-4 in game one, and 4-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs in the second contest. Cris Newcomb drove in four runs in game two, scoring three runs himself.
Eric Sprague got the loss in game one despite going the distance and allowing only three earned runs. The senior struck out five and walked only two. Tyler Stork also went the distance and got the win in the second game, striking out five and giving up no earned runs.
DC ripped nine runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead in the second game. The Jacket bats responded once again, scoring four in the second and added seven runs in the final two innings.
The Jackets were down 0-3 going into the fourth inning of game one and battled-back to tie the game at three in the fifth. Anderson delivered two runs in the sixth to steal the win in game one.
Defiance is now 4-13 on the season, but are in good position heading into the heart of conference play with a 3-3 HCAC mark. The Jackets will travel to Grace on Monday before heading back into Heartland play with a home-and-home series against Bluffton next weekend.
The Jackets host the Beavers in a double-header at noon on Saturday at Rutter Field.
