10-run Jacket eighth buries Beavers
DEFIANCE, OhioThe Defiance College Baseball squad overwhelmed the Bluffton University Beavers on Friday afternoon at Rutter Field, 15-1.
Russ Lupica went all nine innings on the hill, striking out three and retiring 21 batters. Eric Tipton went 4-for-4 with four runs and two RBI. Jeremy Hawkins went 4-for-5 at the plate, driving in two and scoring a run, while walking once. Each DC batter had a hit, with Jeremey Fruhwirth going 3-for-3 with a run. Richard Trick and David Jackson each went 2-for-5, scoring two and one run, respectively.
The Jackets led 5-1 going into the bottom of the eighth, before exploding for 10 runs on eight hits and three BU errors to put the game securely in their hands. Randy Miller got the loss for Bluffton, going the first six innings and striking out four.
The Jackets (7-15, 4-6 HCAC) have now won five out of their last six, and three in a row, heading into tomorrow’s double-header at Bluffton (5-18, 2-8 HCAC). First pitch is scheduled for noon.
