Derek Woodley

| Derek Woodley is beginning his first season as the head coach of Defiance College and will be just the third baseball head coach in the past 24 years of the program.
Woodley brings 14 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level with him to DC and most recently served as the assistant coach at Manchester College. Durring that stint he helped guide the Spartans to a pair of appearances in the Heartland Conference Tournament in 2006 and 2007 in addition to a Midwest Regional Title.
During his two years at Manchester, Woodley played a major role in the program’s recruiting efforts and was primarily responsible for coaching the hitters, outfielders and catchers.
Prior to coaching at MC, Woodley spent 12 seasons at Bethany Lutheran College in Minnesota where he accumulated a 141-90 record, while winning three league titles, a pair of regional championships and two NJCAA Region XIII Coach-of-the-Year honors during a six-year stint as the Vikings’ head coach. Woodley was also an assistant at Bethany Lutheran for six seasons before taking over the reigns of the program and saw the team win four league titles and three regional crowns during that time.
Along with an extensive coaching background, Woodley has served as the intramural director at Bethany Lutheran as well as Manchester and was also the Athletic Director at Bethany Lutheran for over two full years.

Steve Sakosits

| Steve Sakosits joined the Yellow Jackets at the start of the 2006-07 year after completing his playing career at Xavier University. Sakosits is primarily responsible for working with DC’s pitching staff and outfielders.
During his career as a Musketeer, Sakosits was a four-year starter in the outfield and on the mound under head coaches John Morrey, Dan Simonds and Scott Googins. The Red Bank, N.J., native was selected as a team captain during his final season and ended his career ranked fourth all time among Xavier pitchers in appearances. Sakosits led the team in saves during his senior year, was second in the Atlantic 10 Conference in ERA (1.78) and opponent batting average (.207) as a junior and was fourth on the roster in RBIs as a sophomore.
Along with his standout career on the playing field, Sakosits has plenty of coaching experience, as he has worked as an instructor at baseball camps for Xavier, the New Jersey Colts, The Baseball Factory and the All-American Baseball Academy.
Sakosits received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Xavier in 2006 and is currently working towards a master’s degree from Defiance College.

Mike Hill

| Mike Hill will join the Yellow Jacket coaching staff after a career as a four-year starter for Defiance.
Hill recorded a career batting average of .275 during his time patrolling the DC outfield and was selected as an All-Heartland Conference player in 2004.
The Ashland, Ohio, native played in 114 games for the Yellow Jackets during his career and ended with 46 runs scored, 93 hits, nine doubles, 38 runs batted in and 17 stolen bases.
