DC Baseball splits twin bill at Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind.—Tyler Stork got his second straight win as the Defiance College Yellow Jackets defeated Franklin College 3-1 in game one, before falling 2-3 in the second contest in Franklin, Indiana on Saturday afternoon.

Stork allowed just five hits and one earned run, while striking out three in seven innings of work in the first game. James Yenser singled up the middle in the third inning to drive in two runs while Phil Kosier scored on an FC throwing error in the fifth. Franklin’s only run came on a Sean Toler single in the fourth inning, scoring Terry Kinnett.

In game two, Defiance tied the game at two when Kosier scored on a wild pitch and Jeremy Hawkins drove in Cris Newcomb on a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning. The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh inning when the winning Grizzly run crossed on a bases-loaded walk.

Kosier and Hawkins each went 2-for-3 in the second game, while James Yenser got the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season.

The Jackets are now 2-9 overall and 1-2 in the HCAC. DC travels to Bowling Green on Tuesday before going to Manchester College on Friday and hosting the Spartans in a double header on Saturday.

The Grizzlies stand at 9-3 on the year and 2-1 in the Heartland Conference.
