Lupica, Jackets earn win over Hanover
DEFIANCE, OhioOn the strength of a complete game by DC junior Russ Lupica, the Defiance College Yellow Jackets defeated Hanover College 6-2 on Friday afternoon at Rutter Field.
Lupica struck out five while allowing two earned runs on seven hits in nine innings. The Marion, Ohio native walked two batters and hit three batters while retiring 18. Jeremy Vance continued his hot hitting streak as he went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI, both on a third-inning double to left field.
Senior Cris Newcomb went 3-for-5 and drove in one run, while scoring one himself. Eric Tipton also had a productive day at the plate, as the Paulding, Ohio native went 2-for-4 with a run. Richard Trick drove in a run on a third-inning sacrifice fly, scoring Tim Yenser, while James Yenser later sacrificed in Tipton on a sixth-inning fly-out.
Eric Williams got the loss for HC, surrendering four earned runs on six hits.
The Jackets are now 3-14 on the year with a 2-4 mark in the HCAC. The Panthers are 8-13 overall with a 3-4 HCAC record.
The two teams will meet for a Saturday double-header beginning at noon tomorrow (4/9).
