May 4 -- Jackets go on the offensive to beat Ohio Northern

--Defiance, Ohio -- The DC Yellow Jackets used a big third inning to earn a 14-13 win, holding on late to beat Ohio Northern University on Tuesday afternoon at Rutter Field.

James Yenser went 6.0 innings on the mound, striking out two and earning the win, while also going 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and three runs. Lenny Koesters had an impressive 3-for-6 day with three RBI and two runs, while Jeremy Hawkins went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two coming on a home run in the seventh, and two runs. Richard Trick also had a great day at the plate with a 2-for-4 afternoon with three RBI. Eric Tipton ended with a 2-for-3 performance with three runs and an RBI.

The Jackets scored their first 10 runs before the fourth inning, capitalizing on lead-off singles in each of the first three innings and mounted a five-run third inning to take a 10-4 lead. ONU managed five runs of their own through four innings and used a four-run seventh to get back into the game.

In the top-of-the-ninth, a ONU used a three run homer by Casey Dillon to squeeze to within one run. Tyler Stork then closed out the afternoon by inducing a fly-out to right field by David Snapp who had homered twice on the day.

James Yenser moves to 2-3 with the win, while ONU's Jason Erdelyi got the loss.

DC is now 13-21 on the year and will host conference-leading #23 Manchester College on Friday at 4:00 p.m. before traveling to MC for a double-header on Saturday.

The Jackets are currently in fourth place (9-9) in the HCAC and must remain in the top half of the Heartland Conference in order to qualify for their first HCAC Tournament.
