May 1 -- Jackets earn game two win over Pioneers
--Defiance, Ohio -- After dropping the first game 4-7, the DC Baseball squad mounted a late-inning rally to beat Transylvania in game two 3-2.
Trailing 0-2 in the seventh, the Jackets got one run on a passed ball that scored Cris Newcomb who had tripled to right field. Ryan Leininger later singled to score Jason Smolenski and send the game into extra innigs. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Defiance got the one run they needed on a wild pitch that scored Richard Trick and won the game.
Eric Sprague earned the win in 8.0 innings of work, giving up just two earned-runs on seven hits, while fanning eight batters. Freshman Lenny Koesters led DC at the plate with a combined 4-for-6 performance and one run.
The Yellow Jackets gave up four quick runs in the first inning of game one to fall behind. Tyler Stork got the loss after pitching 5.0 innings and giving up three runs on eight hits with one strike-out.
Defiance is now 12-21 on the season with a 9-9 mark in the HCAC. The Jackets will face nationally-ranked Manchester next weekend to try to earn a berth in the HCAC Tournament.
Before battling the Spartans, DC will travel to Heidelberg on Sunday and host Ohio Northern on Tuesday.
