Jacket Baseball shut out by Spartan pitching
N. MANCHESTER, Ind.The Defiance College Baseball squad fell at Manchester College on Friday afternoon, 0-7.
Tough pitching by MC’s Adam Augustine limited the Jacket bats to just two hits with Eric Tipton singling down the left-field line in the fourth, and James Yenser later singling to right field in the same inning. The Jackets’ Mike Mitabelli got the loss, going 5.2 innings and giving up seven earned runs on eight hits, striking out one. Derek Hanson came on in relief, throwing 2.1 innings and giving up no runs on one hit and one K.
Manchester took the lead in the bottom of the second on a Danner Partridge two-RBI single. The Spartans added a run in each the third and fourth before scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the game.
Mirabelli falls to 0-3 on the year while Augustine sits at 3-1 for the 13-4 (2-2 HCAC) Spartans.
The Jackets are now 2-11 overall with a 1-3 mark in the HCAC and will host Manchester in a double header tomorrow (4/2) with first pitch scheduled for noon.
