Defiance at Mount St. Joseph Box Score

CINCINNATI – Defiance dropped its final baseball game of the season on Sunday, falling 9-7 to the College of Mount St. Joseph. The MSJ victory clinched the HCAC regular season title for the Lions.

The Jackets opened the game with a 3-0 lead after Kirk Jesse, Ben Gates and Tim Pitro all reached safely to start the game before coming around to score.

The lead did not last long, as the Mount St. Joseph bats came alive in the third with a three-run rally to tie the game at 3-3. The Lions would add six more runs over the next three innings to take control and seal the 9-7 victory.

Keith Wade (3-5), Trey Harris (2-5) and Aaron Stewart (2-5) each had multi-hit games for DC, while Pitro scored a pair of runs to fuel the offense.

Wade led the Jacket lineup with three hits in the game.

Sunday marked the final games in the collegiate careers of DC’s two seniors and four-year letterwinners David Jackson and R.J. Chidester. The Yellow Jackets end the 2008 campaign with a 5-28 record.
