Jackets outdone by Lions

DEFIANCE, Ohio—
The Defiance College Baseball team (9-19, 6-8 HCAC) fell to the visiting Mount St. Joseph Lions (19-13, 8-6 HCAC) on Friday afternoon at Rutter Field, 0-5.

The Lions scored their five runs on five hits and three DC errors, while the Jackets could not manage a run, despite eight hits, stranding nine runners on base. Russ Lupica had a quality outing, giving up just three earned runs on four hits, striking out four in 7.0 innings of work.

Mike Hill and Eric Tipton led the Jackets offensively, going 2-for-2 and 2-for-4, respectively. Defiance could not get any runs across, facing a tight Lion defense and right-hander Eric Dejardins, who struck out six, and gave up no runs on eight hits, and five walks.

The Jackets, in order to be in contention for the HCAC Tournament, must seemingly win the next two games against the Lions. They will get that chance when they face the Mount in a doubleheader tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for noon.
