April 15-- Jackets drop non-conference match-up to ONU

--Ada, Ohio--Defiance College fell to Ohio Northern, 4-16, in non-conference baseball action in Ada, Ohio on Wednesday afternoon.

DC's emerging pair of freshman Lenny Koesters and Jeremy Hawkins led the Jackets offensively, going 2-for-3 and 2-for-4 respectively. Hawkins registered one RBI while Koesters scored a run. Senior Ryan Leininger and sophomore James Yenser also hit well. Leininger went 2-for-5 with a run and Yenser recorded a 2-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI and a run.

Starting pitcher Jeremy Vance got the loss for Defiance, throwing 2.1 innings and giving-up seven earned runs. James Roberson went 3.2 innings and struck-out three Polar Bears.

Northern jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first before the Jackets pushed their way back into the game in the top of the second when Koesters tripled to start the inning and then scored on a passed ball. James Yenser later hit his second home run of the year to bring the Jackets within one.

The Bears went on another rally in the third, scoring four runs to take a commanding 7-2 lead. The Jackets once again came back with a Richard Trick RBI in the fifth that scored Cris Newcomb and a Hawkins single that scored Leininger in the top of the fifth. At the end of six, the score was 7-4 ONU.

DC saw the game slip away in the seventh and eighth when the Bears scored nine runs to put the game out of reach.

The Jackets are now 7-15 on the year with a 5-4 record in the HCAC and are currently in a three-way tie for third in the conference. DC will host another 5-4 squad in Franklin this weekend for a three-game series. The Grizzlies come into Defiance with a 12-12 overall record.
