Jackets out-hit by Polar Bears
ADA, OhioThe Defiance College Baseball team fell at Ohio Northern University on Tuesday afternoon, 4-15, despite good offensive performances from Cris Newcomb and Mike Hill.
Hill, a sophomore from Ashland, Ohio, went 3-for-4 with a run, while Conneaut, Ohio native Newcomb went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Mike Mirabelli got the loss on the mound after going 2.2 innings and allowing nine earned runs, while striking out two. The Polar Bears scored 13 runs in the first four innings to take early control of the contest.
James Yenser came on in relief, striking out five in 4.1 innings of work, while allowing three earned runs. Chad Casey saw late action, pitching one inning and striking out one. Two of Newcomb’s RBI came on a second-inning single to the catcher that scored Hill and Eric Tipton.
In the sixth inning, Newcomb used a sacrifice fly to right field to score Tipton and close out the Jacket scoring.
The DC Yellow Jackets are now 2-14 on the year with a 1-5 mark in the HCAC. Defiance next will host Hanover College in a weekend series with Friday’s first pitch slated for 4:00 p.m.
