Jackets win three of last four games, defeat ONU
DEFIANCE, OhioThe Defiance College Baseball team won their third game in the last four outings with a 7-5 defeat of Ohio Northern University at Rutter Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Jackets led the entire game with Mike Hill earning the win in 6.1 innings of work, striking out three, while allowing four earned runs. Jeremey Fruhwirth pushed three runs across and hit a fifth-inning double to right field that scored Matt Tycast. Fruhwirth ended the day 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run. David Jackson and James Yenser also hit well with Jackson driving in two runs in a 3-for-4 day at the plate, while Yenser went 3-for-5 with a run.
Craig Holman had one RBI on fifth inning single that scored Fruhwirth and gave the Jackets a 6-1 lead after five complete. Mike Mirabelli came to the mound late and struck out all three batters he faced to stop a late Polar Bear rally and give Defiance their fifth win of the year. Phil Kosier added an RBI in a 1-for-4 day.
The Jackets are now 5-15 overall with a 3-6 mark in the HCAC. They will host Heidelberg on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. before playing home against Bluffton University on Friday at 4:00 p.m. in the first game of a three-game weekend series with the Beavers.
